Lyrics
There’s a place I go when I am dreaming
And I wanna go there right now.
Green rolling hills and the smell of summer
Let me take you there somehow.Since you’ve been in my life,
Since you’ve been in my life.
My eyes are filled with light,
Filled with you.Have you ever noticed
How the sun shines
In your best dreams when they come?
Deep blue the sky goes on forever
The horizons I can never touchSince you’ve been in my life,
Since you’ve been in my life.
My eyes are filled with light
Filled with you.And I ask myself, how did I find,
This strange tranquillity,
This feeling divine?Only you can thread my needle
Dot my eyes and light my fire
And when I dream of my Ambrosia
I am no longer all alone.Since you’ve been in my life,
Since you’ve been in my life.
My eyes are filled with light
Filled with you.Since you’ve been in my life,
Since you’ve been in my life.
My eyes are filled with light,
Filled with you, yes you,
You’re in my life.Copyright 2009 Graham Armfield

Here’s a music video I made for this song.
There’s also a video of me playing it at Shynefest in Summer 2018.
Song history
Since You’ve Been In My Life was originally written in the mid 1980s. At first the song didn’t have the middle section – just the verses and choruses.
The lyrics were inspired by one of my favourite books – Billy Liar by Keith Waterhouse. The song is obviously a love song, but it pulls in aspects from Billy Fisher’s life in the book – for example “There’s a place I go when I am dreaming” and “When I dream of my Ambrosia”.
Initially Since You’ve Been In My Life was in a different key which, although being easier to play, made it harder to sing – especially when the middle section arrived a couple of years later.
It was only when I bought a capo in the early 1990s and changed the key that the song sat more easily in my singing range. That’s when I started occasionally performing it when playing on my own.
But the song never really fitted in to any of the bands I was in, so it didn’t get heard very much.
Around 2008 when I first had the idea of recording a few songs on my PC at home, this song was the obvious place to start – a favourite of mine, but with no good recorded version.
After becoming the first song on what became the Life Line album, I’ve regularly performed it at all my gigs, and it seems to be a lot of peoples’ favourite.
